Observation Narrative
This plot is located ca. 40 m SW of JBNF037 and captures a saturated forest surrounding the more open woodland bog. Pitch pines up to 66 cm DBH dominate the overstory, with Acer rubrum and Nyssa sylvatica forming a sub-canopy. Hummocks of sphagnum cover the ground. Coarse woody debris - consisting of old fallen trees now covered with mosses - is also abundant. Colonies of Osmunda cinnamomea form most of herb layer.
Profile at sample site:
0-10+ cm: sand with muck
Prevalent substrate over plot is deep Sphagnum and organic muck. Sample collected from stream channel, where sandy accumulations were found.
